Details
Motion Dance and Visual Music Performance Art
For this collaboration, I directed and facilitated the Motion Capture broadcast for CityMaze. I also designed the custom tracking elements the dancers wore. I aided in the design of our realtime graphics as well.
City Maze is a new media motion, dance and computer music performance premiering at the opening of the 46th Annual International Computer Music Conference.
The multi-disciplinary team of students and faculty team behind City Maze set out with the goal of experimenting with a combination of as many technologies in simple, beautiful forms to strengthen the bond between audience, music, and motion with the overall theme of hearing the self.
City Maze uses a synthesis of optical motion tracked dance, state-of-the-art real time graphics, physics particle simulations, motion-controlled audio effects and processes millions of data points every second from an array of networked sensors. It is an evolution in a real time performance research system developed by a collective of artists, educators and students at NYU Shanghai, The Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Tongji University.
